Flash Flood

We like to joke around here that the streets will flood if a frog sneezes. We also have a local weatherman call storms like we had this afternoon a “toad strangler.” There’s no place like home.

This never ceases to amaze me. Regardless of how flooded the streets are, we Kansans have a can-do attitude about plowing through standing water. I don’t know about you, but I had to watch a very dull and very histrionic video (or film…it may have been too early for video) during Driver’s Ed. that informed me that it was NEVER okay to drive through standing water. No matter how shallow it looks, YOU NEVER KNOW the actual depths, undercurrents, and sea monsters that will surely rise up from the deeps to cripple or swallow your vehicle in a twinkling.

Even the friendly local law enforcement has this can-do attitude.

Where are the sea monsters when you’ve got a camera handy?

  1. Sounds perfectly logical to me. The “can-do” attitude, I mean, not the “sea monsters” lurking in curb high water on a residential street. 😉 😛
