About Me

I keep getting these nagging notes from WordPress to update my “About Me” page so that my readers can learn something about me.  Drip, drip, drip…so here it is.  However, as my readers already pretty much know me, I’m not sure what they could learn from this little blurb.  And how does one write a blurb about yourself without either being stonkingly arrogant or boring enough to put coffee addicts into a stupor?

Drip, drip, drip…

My name is Kiersten.  In internet land, I’m also Kirky.  It’s a nickname from middle school.  My friends and I used to pass notes in the halls between classes and we used “code” names instead of our real names so that if the notes got intercepted no one would know the author or the recipient.  Uh huh.  I know.  Everyone thinks they’re brilliant at 13.  I’ve stopped using hearts to dot my i’s, too.  Progress.

I live in Kansas, and have for most of my 30 something years, with a brief infant/toddlerhood in NY and PA, and a stint in the South (Memphis, Jackson MS and rural MS) for my husband’s seminary education.  I grew up in Manhattan, KS and I still think it’s got to be one of the greatest places in the world to grow up and get your college education.  I do bleed purple.

I married Sean after we both graduated from KSU, and we have 4 children, ranging from almost 12 to just 4.  I school them at home and sincerely enjoy their company.

I learned to crochet when I was pregnant with #2, and still enjoy crocheting.  When I was expecting #4, I was frustrated at not being able to find a crocheted cardigan pattern I liked on the internet (yes, I’m cheap), while I was able to find 8 million (or so) knit patterns.  I expressed my frustration to Sean and he pretty much dared me to learn.  I did, using that handly dandy internet, and I quickly became addicted.

I love knitting.  I love making something that lasts longer than dishes stay clean and laundry stays folded.  I love learning new techniques and making things I had never considered making before.  I love the colors, the feel of the yarns, the almost magical way sticks and string can produce something beautiful and useful.

I’ve recently learned how to spin my own yarn, and I absolutely love it.  There is nothing like the thrill of taking fiber from fluff to garment.

I knit for family and friends, I knit for selling, and I have just started knitting for me.  I’ve written a couple patterns and would like to do more of that.

There it is.

I think the dripping will stop now. )
